Grannies Alma, Loris, Jeanette, Jo, Mary Louise, Pat, Ria, Rosalie, Sara, and Shannon braved a mild snowstorm to participate in the March 17 international day of action on the 4th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. We played a large role in the proceedings. Grannies Ria and Rosalie brought their beautiful doves, one for each Canadian who has died in Afghanistan. People in the crowd of more than 300 were happy to carry them and we received many positive comments. Grannies Shannon and Jo had made buttons that said “Food, not Bombs” and handed them out to participants. The theme was chosen to express that we want the troops out, but do not want to abandon the people of Afghanistan. When the march reached Parliament Hill, the real fun began. First we sang Granny Pat’s song, Explain Yourself. Then we accompanied Larry Rousseau in singing a special version of Day-Oh modified for the purpose by Larry, former Granny Corinne and Granny Pat. All agreed that this was a great finale for the day.
