| Gig in Support of CBC Workers September 28, 2005 Report by Grannie Pat: ![]() There were five of us: Virginia, Jo, Jeanette, Sara (just back from Africa) and I. As we headed down the Mall, I began encountering CBC people I used to know and work with at the Chateau. Nancy Atfield first (Head Office now), Rob Clipperton (In Town and Out), Jennifer Fry (The House), who pointed me towards the stage where Marc Laurin (technician) was leading a sort of program for the picketers on a makeshift stage. I got his attention (and a hug), suggested the Raging Grannies had a song for them. "Right after this speech," he said, indicating a spokesman for the teachers, who was pointing out how much the CBC is relied on by them in their research and teaching. The spokesman's name is Paul Dewer, and he intends to run for the NDP in the next election for Ottawa Centre. Then we clambered up, grabbed a mic, sang a four-line round about boycotting CBC while the management stalemated, and a three-verse one. The pickets paid a lot of attention to the words, and came up individually to us afterward, thanking us for our support and one guy said, "It's nice to know somebody knows the issues." Diane Duthie told us, "Anybody who can rhyme "abhorrence" with Ed Laurence is okay in my book." ![]() Close Window to Return to Index |
