Reports of two 'NO MORE WAR' gigs September 25,
2005By Alma Norman Ottawa Raging Grannie ON Sept 22 we added our anti war message to Gen Hillier's PRO military one at Carleton University. We aimed a double-barrelled NO WAR message this week in collaboration with the international protest againt the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the on-going oppressions elsewhere. When we presented our Contestoria, THE STORY OF WAR, outside the room where Gen. Hillier was exhorting Canadians to be more militaristic, it was enthusiastically received by a small crowd, and we're convinced that for some topics - like War - the Contestoria is the way to go. UNconvention: would it be possible
to have a "How To" CONTESTORIA workshop????The Rally on Sept 24 in Ottawa was smaller than hoped - about 250 plus six Grannies: Jeanette, Jo, Alma, Maura, Rosalie and Mary Skerrit, who was in Ottawa combining a family visit with a Grannie action. Our stalwart Grannie Virginia had come to the park to march with us, but unfortunately our trusty wheechair didn't arrive, so Virginia reluctantly had to send her non-physical energies on the march as she watched. The march itself was
colourful, lively, and made its point: NO MORE
WARS. We marched through the more peopled parts of Ottawa on a
beautiful day, including the Market area. We Grannies had decided
that instead of singing we'd be most useful in handing out flyers
explaining the issues, most of these were well received, tho the
occasional grump did refuse to accept that "junk".top |
