We, along with youth environmental activists who tried to stage a bed-in, made quite a splash in the media.  Check out the video on Mike Duffy Live or the article in the National Post and the Toronto Star.

Conservative Members of Parliament are paralyzing the work of the Environment Committee by blocking the Climate Change Accountability Act, Bill C-377.  On April 9, 2008, the Tory filibuster had exceeded 18 hours so the Ottawa Grannies decided to make a fuss.

Grannies Jo, Joanne, Maura, Ria, and Rosalie went into the environmental committee meeting room just before the committee would resume after lunch where we sang "Johnny Baird's picnic." written by Granny Cathleen.

Johnny Baird's Picnic
tune: Teddy Bears' Picnic

If you go onto the Hill today you’re in for a big surprise
If you go onto the Hill today, you’d better go in disguise
For gas and oil companies
Will celebrate our policies
Cos they're the guests when Johnny Baird has his picnic.

Picnic time for CEOs
The big polluters are having a lovely time today
Carbon credits, how it shows
That they will never, ever have to pay
See their experts spouting lies
So all the people will never have any cares
At election time they’ll pay for the Tories
And sacrifice the land to make a
Picnic for Johnny Baird.
