Ten Ottawa Raging Grannies turned out for a Rally and March in support of bringing Omar Khadr back to Canada from Guatanamo Bay. The Rally was organized by nowar-paix. The subtitle of this action should be "Singing in the Rain."
The noon-hour demonstration was designed to appeal to our government and the Canadian people to do the right thing and bring our citizen, Omar Khadr, back to Canada from Guantanamo Bay where he has been held since 2002.. If he goes on trial in October as he is slated to do, he’ll be the first child soldier to do so since Nuremberg. During the rally, which included speeches by the Council of Canadians, Amnesty International, and the Canadian Peace Alliance, the Ottawa Grans sang a song specially written by Granny Alma Norman for the occasion. Check it out! All of the marchers then walked through the Byward Market and along Rideau Street to the Prime Minister's office. As we went we distributed postcards toPrime Minister Harper asking him to bring Omar Khadr home. 1200 postcards were distributed.
